Mercedes-Benz established a reputation for comfort, safety, and performance decades ago and continues to uphold that trademark as the company regularly adds cutting-edge technology with every model that hits the showroom floor. Add reliability to the mix, and generally speaking, purchasing a used Mercedes-Benz is practically a no-brainer.
Mercedes-Benz oozes luxury in its various models, especially in the E-Class, which is the longest running vehicle currently in production. E-Class vehicles are available in sedans, wagons, coupes, and cabriolet (convertible) styles with multiple powertrains to choose from. With its redesign in 2010, the E-Class embraced the 268-hp E350 as well as the 382-hp E500, both of which incorporate efficient mileage. Later, in 2014, the E-Class vehicles got another facelift and remain robust and reliable vehicles today according to Motor Trend.
First introduced in 1994, the C-Class has become known as a high-performance, compact, luxury sedan. Something to note, some C-Class models had manual transmissions before 2012, but all models after have only an automatic transmission. According to Motor Trend, the 2015 C400 is a luxurious ride with an S-Class feel complete with a five-star safety rating. C-Class vehicles are available in sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and wagons. The CLA sedan, introduced in 2014, is a luxurious yet more inexpensive version under the C-Class umbrella and has a powerful 208-hp engine with a 7-speed transmission. With a 26mpg city fuel rating, the CLA250 is also incredibly fuel efficient. Add a superior rating in 2015 with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and an average reliability score, the CLA can also be an excellent choice for a used vehicle.
The cream of the crop can be had with a fresh-off-the-line Mercedes-Benz S-Class as it has consistently ranked #1 in Super Luxury Cars according to U.S. News & World Report if you are willing to pay between $96k and $200k or more. That is likely out of range for many who would like the comfort and luxury, but you can still find what you want in a used Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The 2015 S-Class vehicles, available in sedans and coupes, have a fabulously smooth ride coupled with quick acceleration. Boasting either a V8 or V12 engine, fuel economy peaks at about 17mpg city and 26mpg highway. With an above average reliability score from J.D. Power, used S-Class models are a solid investment.
Mercedes-Benz Luxury SUVs
There is no doubt that a brand new Mercedes-Benz SUV is expensive, but that does not mean you can’t have a quality new-to-you model if you do your homework. As per the latest release from Consumer Reports in October 2016, the coupe-like SUV Mercedes-Benz GLC is ranked as one of the top ten most reliable cars. The GLC boasts plush comfort and a powerful nine-speed 241-hp engine in addition to having standard auto emergency braking. M-Class SUVs, renamed the GLE-Class in 2016, also handle very well and are a solid representation of the Mercedes-Benz brand. This luxury midsize SUV has an upscale interior with 38.4 inches of legroom in the second row. In 2015, the M-Class was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in addition to receiving an average reliability score from J.D. Power.
